Giants will not tender DT Kristjan Sokoli

Slowly but surely, the New York Giants are beginning to address some of their own free agents ahead of the new league year, which gets underway on March 13.

Late last week, the team re-signed tight end Scott Simonson before he hit the open market, but that will not be the case for defensive tackle Kristjan Sokoli.

Sokoli’s agent, Brett Tessler, revealed on Monday that the defensive lineman will not return to the Giants in 2019.

Sokoli, who was originally a sixth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2015 NFL Draft, bounced around the league a bit before joining the Giants’ practice squad during the final week of the 2017 season.

After signing a reserve/futures deal, Sokoli returned to the Giants in 2018, but luck was not on his side as he suffered a torn ACL in a 20-10 preseason-opening loss to the Cleveland Browns in 2018. He was subsequently placed on season-ending injured reserve (IR).

Sokoli is one of six Giants who entered the offseason as an exclusive rights free agent. He will now begin free agency as an unrestricted free agent.
