Giants waive Rod Smith, two others with injury settlements

The New York Giants cut ties with three more injured players on Tuesday.

Offensive tackle Victor Salako (shoulder) was waived (no recall) from the Reserve/Injured list with an injury settlement.

The Giants also terminated the contracts of two vested veterans, Tight end Scott Simonson (ankle) and running back Rod Smith (adductor), who were also on injured reserve. They will both receive injury settlements.

Salako spent two summers with the Giants and spent the 2018 on the practice squad. He was signed to reserve/futures contract in January.

Simonson, a Middletown, N.J.native, signed with the Giants in June of 2018 and played in all 16 games last year, starting four. He caught nine passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. He injured his ankle in the Giants’ final preseason game against New England.

Smith, a former Cowboy and Seahawk, was signed in May based on his strong special teams play and was in the running for a role in the Giants’ backfield when he was injured.
