Giants waive LB Nate Harvey with failed physical

The New York Giants officially waived linebacker Nate Harvey on Wednesday with a failed physical designation.

Harvey, 23, was signed to a three-year, $1.755 contract by the Giants last May after he had gone undrafted out of East Carolina.

The team had hoped to find a diamond in the rough, but a rookie mini-camp knee injury ended Harvey’s season before it even began.

Then-head coach Pat Shurmur announced just days after Harvey had signed that he suffered a “serious” injury that likely required surgery. The linebacker was eventually placed on season-ending injured reserve.

In two seasons at East Carolina, Harvey appeared in 17 games, recording 47 tackles (24.5 for a loss), 12 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. In 2018, he was also named the AAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Harvey’s 24.5 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks also led the American Conference in 2018.
