Giants vs. Patriots Player of the Game: Markus Golden

The New York Giants were under-manned going into Gillette Stadium against the New England Patriots on Thursday night and it showed.

While the Giants ended up falling to the Patriots, 35-14, that didn’t stop Big Blue and their defense from giving the defending Super Bowl Champions an absolute fight, especially on defense.

One of the Giants players who kept fighting all game — and really has done so all season — was linebacker Markus Golden, who continues to look like the guy who had 12.5 sacks back in 2016.

Golden had three tackles, was credited for 0.5 sack, which gives him five on the season and leads all Giants players.

But his biggest play in the game was when Golden recovered a fumble of Tom Brady, who was sacked by Lorenzo Carter and returned it 42 yards for the game-tying touchdown.

For the one-year deal that the Giants signed Golden for in the offseason, he’s been an absolute bargain — he’s arguably been their best pass rusher and one of their best players on defense.

And even though the Giants have been surrendering a lot of points and yardage to opponents in 2019, it hasn’t been no fault of Golden’s, as he has been a rare bright spot on a defense that has struggled for the most part of the season.
