Giants vs. Cowboys: Statistics, numbers and broken records

The New York Giants fell to the Dallas Cowboys, 35-17, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday evening in what was an all-around sad showing to start the 2019 regular season.

With the loss, the Giants fall to 0-1 on the season and find themselves sitting in an all too familiar place at the very bottom of the NFC East.

Although the Giants fell, there were a few noteworthy moments and some statistics worthy mentioning. Let’s take a look:

  • The Giants lost on opening weekend for the third consecutive season and the eighth time over the last nine years.
  • The loss marks five straight to the Dallas Cowboys.
  • The Giants offense put up 470 total yards, which is their most under head coach Pat Shurmur.
  • The Giants fell to 2-4 when they score first under head coach Pat Shurmur.
  • With the start, Eli Manning became the first player in Giants history to play 16 years for the team.
  • The start represented Manning 233rd consecutive start for the Giants, which breaks his own franchise record.
  • The 300-yard passing performance was Manning’s 51st of his career. The Giants are 19-32 in those games.
  • Saquon Barkley’s first run of the season went for 59 yards, which is the longest first carry of the season for the Giants since the 1970 merger.
  • Evan Engram set a personal best with 11 receptions (his previous high was 8).
  • The Giants defense was held without a sack for the first time in eight games.
  • With his 28-yarder, Aldrick Rosas has connected on 20 straight field goal attempts, which is the second-longest streak in Giants history (Josh Brown holds the record with 29).
  • Eight Giants made their NFL debut in Week 1.
  • With his 300 yards passing, Eli Manning became only the seventh quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 56,000 career yards.
  • With his 30 completions, Manning now has 4,834 on his career and is inching closer to Dan Marino (4,967) for fifth-most all-time.
