Giants’ uniforms don’t fare well in latest Sporting News rankings

The Sporting News is on a ranking spree these days, and late last week, they tackled all 32 of the league’s primary uniforms — an interesting look into something that’s often overlooked.

For the New York Giants, they did not exactly fare well, having their classic blue’s called “dull” and ranked near the bottom of the NFL at No. 23 overall.

No. 23 – New York Giants

Speaking of dull, enter Big Blue’s boring blue home uniforms. Two things before we get into those, though: The Giants’ Color Rush uniforms are great, and their away sets aren’t bad.

The grey pants, which returned to New York in 2000 as a throwback to the team’s 1960s style, don’t look good, and the grey facemasks are awkward, too. Thankfully, the gray pants have been minimalized in their usage.

The Giants should literally make their Color Rush uniforms their new, full-time away uniforms. Their home jerseys can be an inverse of the colors – blue jersey with red-outlined white numbers – and the white facemasks work perfectly on the blue helmets with either the “NY” or the “Giants” logo. Problem solved.

There won’t be much of a disagreement when it comes to the Giants’ alternate/color rush uniforms, which are remarkably nostalgic and all-around amazing.

However, a red outline to their white numbers on a blue background for home uniforms? That sounds legitimately horrendous even if you’re not a fan of the basic home blue’s.

The Giants do occasionally tinker with some changes, including the more frequent use of their white pants as opposed to gray, but like the New York Yankees of the baseball world, Big Blue stays true to their storied history and tradition.
