Giants unhappy with Janoris Jenkins following Week 2 outburst

New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins was exceptionally unhappy following a 28-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, pulling no punching during his post-game press conference, which was highlighted by an outburst aimed at the team’s pass rush.

“When you have time and you ain’t getting no pressure, I can’t cover nobody for 10 seconds. Who can cover somebody for 10 seconds? Go look at the first five seconds of the route — he’s not open,” Jenkins told reporters. “If you scramble and there ain’t no pressure getting there, what do you want me to do? I can’t cover this side and that side. Like, c’mon, bro. We’ve got to play football around here.”

Jenkins didn’t stop there, however.

While publicly shaming his teammates — even though some agreed with the criticisms — isn’t what a veteran should do, it was his other comments that seemed to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

“Yeah, I’m angry,” Jenkins said. “It’s what my second year going 0-2? Third in a row. I’m on Year 8. I need to get somewhere. I’m trying to win something. C’mon bro.”

In the aftermath of his outburst, Jenkins was apparently called into Shurmur’s office, where the two had a heart-to-heart and cleared the air.

Jenkins was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team during Ben McAdoo’s tenure as head coach, but the Giants don’t appear inclined to go that route over his latest comments.

Still, while some may praise Jenkins (and Alec Ogletree, for that matter) for showing a little fiery emotion, it’s clear that some fractures are beginning to develop in the locker room.

Losing does that and Jenkins has been losing a lot for a long time now.
