Giants to work out Penn State CB Amani Oruwariye

The New York Giants have 12 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft and are said to be favoring diving into the pool of defensive talent coming out of college this spring.

One of the players that could interest them is Penn State cornerback Amani Oruwariye, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound corner that has become an intriguing prospect after logging in a strong showing at the Nittany Lions’ Pro Day this week. The Giants will be one of the teams he’ll be visiting before the draft.

Oruwariye was All-Big 10 this season and was a three-year starter at State College. He has had his ups and downs however, and that is why many figure him to be selected anywhere from the second round to the fifth.

Oruwariye sees his game translating to the NFL level. He models his style after many of the league’s top corners.

“I love watching Richard Sherman,” Oruwariye told NJ Advance Media. “He’s intelligent on the field. He can recognize routes before they come and studies film hard. I like watching [Jalen] Ramsey, just from a mentality standpoint. He brings that confidence you need at corner. Then there’s guys like Darius Slay who play the deep-ball well. I try to take pieces from all of them.”

The Giants are currently set to start Janoris Jenkins and Sam Beal at corner this season but could always use some depth. Beal, who was selected last July in the NFL Supplemental Draft in the third round, is a second-round talent according to general manager Dave Gettleman.
