Giants to sign NT Danny Shelton

The New York Giants have agreed to terms with veteran nose tackle Danny Shelton, who visited with the team on Monday.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news.

From Giants Wire earlier today:

Shelton, 27, was a first-round pick of the Browns in the 2015 NFL draft and spent the first three seasons of his career in Cleveland. However, the team opted to ship him off to New England in 2018 where he played under Bill Belichick and current Giants head coach Joe Judge.

After his brief stint with the Patriots, Shelton signed a two-year deal with the Detroit Lions last offseason but was released earlier this month.

In 87 career games (72 starts), Shelton has recorded 247 tackles (16 for a loss), one forced fumble, two passes defensed, 18 QB hits and 5.5 sacks.

In 2020, Shelton was given a career-low grade of 51.1 courtesy of Pro Football Focus, but that came after four consecutive seasons grading out between 69.6 and 82.1.

As mentioned previously, the presence of the the 6-foot-2, 345-pound Shelton gives the Giants a veteran replacement for Dalvin Tomlinson, who signed a multi-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings early in free agency.
