The New York Giants seem to be raiding the Miami Dolphins’ coaching staff. First, they poached Patrick Graham to be the defensive coordinator. Now they’ve reportedly snared quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski.
Here’s three things to know about Shuplinski:

Like Joe Judge, he comes from solid stock
Schuplinski and Judge both coached under Bill Belichick in New England and are three-time Super Bowl champions (XLIX, LI, LIII). Shuplinski first joined the Pats’ staff as an offensive assistant in 2015, then moved up to assistant quarterbacks coach in 2016.
Last season, Schuplinski left the Pats to join Brian Flores’ staff in Miami where he was the QB coach.

Before New England, he was a low-level coach
Schuplinksi began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at John Carroll University in Ohio. He then became the head coach of Trinity High School in 2002. In 2007, Schuplinski moved on to Case Western Reserve as their special teams coordinator and linebackers coach.
He is a hot name in coaching circles these days
Believe it or not, Schuplinski is highly regarded in the NFL and is seen as an up-and-coming assistant. He was lauded several times when he was with the Patriots, not only for his work with Tom Brady but also Jimmy Garappolo and Jacoby Brisett, both of whom have gone on to become starting quarterbacks in the NFL.

Garappolo speaks highly of him
Garappolo is currently the starter for the San Francisco 49ers, who will be hosting the Green Bay Packers in this week’s NFC Championship Game.
“(Schuplinski) was with me from day one,” Garoppolo told WEEI. “Josh McDaniels was our quarterbacks coach, but Jerry was my quarterbacks coach at the time. He taught me all the ins and outs of the playbook…at the beginning you’re going into a system where a guy has been doing it for however many years Tom has been doing it with Josh, so they are kind of speaking a different language initially. You’re just trying to play catch-up when you are in there, and Jerry was kind of the guy. He knows all the stuff and he brings you up to speed.”
So does Brissett…
From CBS Sports: “Brissett, who played well when Brady was out serving his league-issued suspension at the start of the 2016 season, specifically sought Schuplinski out after receiving a game ball following a win early in the ’16 season.”
Brissett is now the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts.
