The New York Giants had been eyeing Matt Moore to backup Daniel Jones in 2020, but they made a shift on Thursday, agreeing to terms with former third-round pick Colt McCoy.
Here are three quick things to know about McCoy:

Unbelievable college career
Before entering the NFL as a third-round pick in 2010, McCoy had a remarkable career at Texas, winning an absurd number of awards and honors before having his No. 12 officially retired.
Here are just some of McCoy’s noteworthy awards:
- Maxwell Award (2009)
- Davey O’Brien Award (2009)
- Manning Award (2009)
- Chic Harley Award (2009)
- Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (2009)
- Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year (2009)
- 2× Walter Camp Award (2008, 2009)
- Archie Griffin Award (2008)
- Sporting News College Athlete of the Year (2009)
- 2× First-team All-American (2008, 2009)
- 2× Heisman Trophy finalist (2008, 2009)
- Heisman Trophy runner-up (2008)
- Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year (2006)
McCoy also ranks within the top 15 of most all-time NCAA and Big 12 passing categories.

Was Pat Shurmur’s No. 1 QB
Once upon a time, McCoy was the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns — back when Pat Shurmur was still running the show.
Under Shurmur’s watch, McCoy started 13 games and threw for 2,733 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions before being replaced by Brandon Weeden in 2012.
McCoy has started just seven games since then, while Shurmur had a disastrous stint coaching the Giants and is now the offensive coordinator in Denver.

Another Daniel in town
Everyone knows McCoy by the name of “Colt,” “The Colt” or “Pistola,” but his real name is “Daniel Colt McCoy.”
Just don’t call him Daniel or Dan because he absolutely hates it.
McCoy has gone by the name “Colt” all his life, but it’s unclear how or why that started. Whatever the case may be, it’s stuck and McCoy prefer it stay that way, although offensive linemen throughout his career have gotten wind of that and regularly call him “Daniel” to poke some fun at the QB.
With the Giants, Colt will now backup another Daniel — Daniel Jones.
