GWS tagger Toby Bedford won't play against Geelong after experiencing swelling around the eye.
Bedford was named in Adam Kingsley's extended squad for Sunday's clash at GMHBA Stadium, but the Giants coach has backflipped on the decision.
"Toby's no good, actually. He saw an ophthalmologist yesterday afternoon, and the decision this morning was that he won't play," Kingsley said on Friday.
"It was something around the pressure differential between both eyes, and it was deemed a little bit unsafe for him to play.
"There's no risk with the eye, but it's better off not to play than to play.
"He's been a terrific player for us, obviously tagging the best inside mid, so we'll need to work through exactly what that's going to look like against the Cats."
Bedford suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Giants' derby loss, caught high by Sydney defender Lewis Melican's swinging arm.

He passed a concussion assessment but was substituted out at halftime with blurred vision due to swelling around his right eye.
The 24-year-old was expected to make a beeline for Geelong midfielder Bailey Smith, who finished with a goal, 34 disposals and five clearances in the Cats' three-point win over Collingwood last round.
Kingsley kept his cards close when asked about his plans for nullifying spearheads Patrick Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron.
All-Australian defender Sam Taylor looms as the obvious choice in a stacked Giants backline featuring Conor Idun, Lachie Ash and Lachie Whitfield.
"It's a hard match-up. He's (Dangerfield) been fantastic, particularly that last quarter against Collingwood last week, and even the week before, outstanding," Kingsley said.
"I feel like we've got a couple of options, but they've got some pretty handy forwards too.
"Cameron's reasonable, so he's going to take some beating too, and we know all about him, obviously.
"We'll shuffle through those match-ups. We have preferences, but I'm sure (the Giants defenders) will have a bit of each of those match-ups."
Darcy Jones is another forced out for Kingsley, the small forward experiencing swelling around his knee.
He joins Brent Daniels (abdominal), Stephen Coniglio (glute) and Josh Kelly (hip) on the injury list.
"That's a little bit of a risk that we're not prepared to take (with Jones)," Kingsley said.
"I would expect he'll be fine for next week but I'm hesitant to say that, given I've said that about Daniels and Coniglio too.
"The swelling is coming down, but it's just not down enough for him to be available this week."
