Giants’ Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton out vs. Bills

The New York Giants were hoping that wide receiver Sterling Shepard would clear concussion protocol and be ready to go in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, but that will not be the case.

Despite making strides in recent days, Shepard was not able to get through league protocol in time for the team’s final injury report, subsequently being ruled out for the game.

Fellow wide receiver Darius Slayton, who has been battling groin and hamstring injuries since training camp, also didn’t make enough progress to receive the green light. He, too, has been ruled out on Sunday, pushing his NFL debut back at least another week.

Additionally, tight end Garrett Dickerson (calf) is out for the second consecutive week.

Wide receiver Cody Latimer, who was a fresh addition to the injury report earlier this week due to a calf injury, is expected to be a game-time decision. He is listed as questionable.

If Latimer is unable to go, Russell Shepard, Bennie Fowler, Cody Core and TJ Jones will be the team’s four receivers.

Defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence (shoulder), linebacker Markus Golden (hip) and right guard Kevin Zeitler (guard) did not receive a designation and all are expected to start come Sunday.
