Giants’ Sterling Shepard being evaluated for a concussion

Already thin at wide receiver, the New York Giants could ill afford to lose Sterling Shepard, but they could very well be without him in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.

During a Monday conference call with the New York media, head coach Pat Shurmur said Shepard is currently being evaluated for a concussion and could land in league protocol.

Although a concussion wouldn’t immediately eliminate Shepard from Sunday’s action, there’s a strong chance he would not recover in time to play the Bills.

Shurmur didn’t elaborate at what point during Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys that Shepard was injured, but one of his final plays of the game saw the receiver mauled in the endzone — a play that wasn’t flagged despite the obvious nature of the penalty.

Additionally, Shurmur revealed that right guard Kevin Zeitler suffered a shoulder injury against the Cowboys, but he doesn’t consider it serious and Zeitler is not expected to miss any games.

Finally, Shurmur confirmed what we all knew on Sunday night — linebacker Kareem Martin suffered a sprained knee and could, potentially, be sidelined for a little while.

On the positive end of things, defensive lineman B.J. Hill (eye) and safety Jabrill Peppers (leg) did not suffer serious injuries and should return to practice on Wednesday.
