Giants star running back Saquon Barkley was carted to the locker room in the second quarter after hurting his right knee Sunday at Soldier Field.

Barkley, whom Bears defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano compared to legend Earl Campbell this week, was injured when safety Eddie Jackson tackled him along the Bears sideline on the first play of the second quarter. Staffers helped carry him to the Giants sideline, and then to the cart.

The injury was severe enough that the Giants ruled him out almost immediately, saying he was going for X-rays on his knee. They said he’ll also be examined further Monday.

Barkley had appeared to hurt his wrist late after a run late in the first quarter, but returned to the game without being examined by Giants doctors.

The second pick of the 2018 draft, Barkley is the centerpiece of the Giants offense. Last week, though, he didn’t look like it — he had 15 carries for only six yards, but caught six passes for 60 yards in a loss to the Steelers. This week, he defended himself when former Giants great Tiki Barber said he might not be a true three-down back.
