Giants slated to select No. 2 overall in 2020 NFL Draft, could still land No. 1

If you view the glass as half empty, the New York Giants lost in Week 13 and established themselves as one of the worst teams in the league and an outright laughingstock.

If you view the glass as half full, the Giants took a step closer to earning the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft thanks to their loss and wins by the Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins and others.

For a realist who just drinks the water to survive, both of those assessments can be true at the same time — they are not mutually exclusive.

If the 2019 regular season were to end today, the Giants would select No. 2 overall in April’s draft, but their chances at No. 1 overall have increased substantially.

Here’s how the top 10 current sits after 13 weeks:

  1. Cincinnati Bengals
  2. New York Giants
  3. Washington Redskins
  4. Miami Dolphins
  5. Atlanta Falcons
  6. Detroit Lions
  7. Arizona Cardinals
  8. Jacksonville Jaguars
  9. New York Jets
  10. Los Angeles Chargers

With games against the Redskins and Dolphins remaining on the schedule, the Giants could further help their draft status with a few losses, but they would still need the Bengals to win at least one more to have a shot at No. 1 overall.

Regardless of where the Giants end up, they are staring down the barrel at another top 5 pick, which could land them Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young — a legitimate defensive game-changer and exactly what this team needs.
