Giants sign WR T.J. Jones, place Corey Coleman on IR

The New York Giants are on a hard target search for talent and depth at wide receiver after a spate of injuries to Corey Coleman (ACL), Sterling Shepard (thumb), Darius Slayton (hamstring) and Brittan Golden (groin). Add in the possible pending suspension of Golden Tate, and the wide receiver room is in need of some fresh bodies.

On Saturday, the Giants signed one of their former practice squad players — Amba Etta-Tawo — back and are also bringing in former Detroit Lions wideout T.J. Jones.

Jones was a sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame by the Detroit Lions in 2014, running a 4.48 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine that year. He played four seasons for the Lions, his best season coming in 2017 when he caught 30 passes for 399 yards and one touchdown.

Jones (6-foot, 188 pounds) is the godson of another former Notre Dame receiver Raghib “Rocket” Ismail, a former Heisman Trophy runner-up who went on to play in the NFL for the Raiders, Panthers and Cowboys.

In order to make room for Jones and Etta-Tawo, the Giants placed Corey Coleman on injured reserve and waived kicker Joey Slye, who had only been added to the roster earlier this week.
