Giants sign TE Isaiah Searight, waive TE Eric Dungey

The New York Giants made a minor transaction ahead of their first day of training camp on Wednesday, announcing that tight end Eric Dungey had been waived and fellow tight end Isaiah Searight had been signed.

Dungey, an undrafted free agent quarterback convert from Syracuse, was an exciting addition for the Giants initially. A big, fast playmaker, Dungey was expected to take over an x-factor role for the Giants on offense, providing them with a Swiss army knife-like option who could cause defenses fits.

Unfortunately, a back ailment hindered Dungey for much of the spring and ultimately led to this end. However, it is possible that once the move hits the transaction wire, it’s listed as “waived/injured,” meaning that if Dungey clears waivers, he reverts to injured reserve, allowing the Giants to hang onto him.

Searight (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) was a three-time all-Patriot League selection at Fordham who initially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. He remained with the Bucs for a few weeks before suffering a hamstring injury, leading to him being waived/injured. He later cleared waivers and was released with an injury settlement.

With the Giants, Searight will face an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster.
