Giants sign RB Austin Walter to practice squad, release TE C.J. Conrad

The New York Giants made a minor adjustment to their practice squad on Wednesday, announcing that the contract of rookie tight end C.J. Conrad had been terminated and running back Austin Walter signed.

Conrad was impressive throughout the spring and into summer, but with a sudden abundance of tight end depth, he ultimately proved to be the odd man out.

Meanwhile, Austin adds another running back to a roster that’s very thin in that regard.

An undrafted rookie free agent out of Rice, Austin signed with the San Francisco 49ers following the 2019 NFL Draft and spent the entire offseason with the team, finding himself released as part of final cuts at the end of August.

The 5-foot-8, 202-pound Austin was second on the team with 125 rushing yards and one touchdown during the preseason, adding six receptions for 40 yards through the air.
