Giants sign punter Ryan Anderson

The New York Giants appear set at punter with Riley Dixon, but general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur enjoy a little training camp competition, which is exactly what they have in store for Dixon.

After a rookie minicamp tryout, the Giants are signing punter Ryan Anderson.

The 6-foot-1, 2013-pound Anderson became the seventh Scarlet Knight across all sports platforms to earn CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America status in 2017. He was also named the Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year.

Those awards are just the tip of the iceberg for Anderson, who holds the following records and has earned the following honors:

  • Rutgers All-Time Single-Season Punting Average Leader (44.4)
  • 2017 CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America
  • 2017 Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year
  • 2017 First Team All-Big Ten (Media, Coaches, AP)
  • 2017 Ray Guy Award Watch List
  • 2017 Academic All-District II First Team

Anderson went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, briefly joining the New England Patriots for their rookie minicamp. However, he did not sign a deal with the Patriots or any other NFL team a year ago, ultimately sitting the season out.
