Giants sign Pharoh Cooper to practice squad, place two on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The New York Giants have signed veteran wide receiver Pharoh Cooper to their practice squad, although he’s unlikely to remain there for long.

The 26-year-old Cooper was a fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL draft out of South Carolina. He spent his first three seasons in the league with the club before becoming more of a journeyman.

In addition to the Rams, the 5-foot-11, 207-pound Cooper has spent time with the Arizona Cardinals (2018, 2019), Cincinnati Bengals (2019), Carolina Panthers (2020) and most recently, the Jacksonville Jaguars (2021).

Cooper was named an All-Pro in 2017 and also made it to the Pro Bowl.

In 62 career games (six starts), Cooper has hauled in 55 receptions for 506 yards and one touchdown to go along with eight yards on two rush attempts. However, his real damage has been done on special teams where he’s returned 104 kickoffs for 2,523 yards (24.3 average) and one touchdown, as well as 82 punts for 729 yards (8.9 average).

In addition to signing Cooper to their practice squad, the Giants have also placed running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) and safety Xavier McKinney on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Offensive lineman Matt Skura, who also missed practice on Wednesday due to COVID-19 protocols, was not placed on the list.
