Giants showing extensive interest in Kyler Murray

Oklahoma held its Pro Day on Wednesday, and a strong contingent of New York Giants were on hand, including head coach Pat Shurmur, offensive coordinator Mike Shula and director of college scouting Chris Petit.

Not only did that contingent watch carefully as Murray threw, they also met with Murray during the bench press portion of the day and later held a 30-minute meeting with the quarterback that made him late for his press conference.

Prior to the NFL Combine, an aging Pat Shurmur quote about his desire for tall quarterbacks was resurrected, but the coach quickly dismissed that notion in Indianapolis, saying quality quarterbacks come in various forms.

“Quarterbacks come in all shapes and sizes,” said Shurmur. “I don’t know what’s too small. Russell Wilson is 5-foot-10.”

Could this indicate the Giants are going to make a push for Murray? If they do, it will come at an extensive cost as most believe the quarterback will go at No. 1 overall, meaning New York would have to make a climb of five spots.

With an extra first-round pick thanks to the Odell Beckham Jr. trade, the Giants do have the necessary ammunition to make that move, but they’ll need to be unanimously sure of what they project out of Murray or run the risk of damaging the organization for another decade-plus.
