Giants should run, not walk, to acquire Dolphins’ Minkah Fitzpatrick

There are reports swirling this morning that the Miami Dolphins are shopping stud cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick. And the New York Giants should be interested.

Why on God’s green earth, you ask ,would the Giants want to add to their young secondary? They have other holes they need to address, no? Yes, they do but after what we’ve seen the past few weeks, cornerback — an impact cornerback — such as Fitzpatrick is always a need even if you think you’re set at that position.

Fitzpatrick is a game changer. He’s also a Jersey kid would fit right in here in all facets.

The Giants are banking on players like Sam Beal and Deandre Baker to develop. Corey Ballentine is still learning. Beal may not see the field again this year and Baker appears to be in over his head and the Giants may have overdrafted him.

Fitzpatrick already knows how to play this position at the NFL level. He was the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and he was worth it. The Alabama product racked up 80 total tackles with one pass defensed and two interceptions – one of which he took 50 yards to the house.

Miami will want a first-round pick from the Giants and that pick — the way things look — could be a top-10 pick. Giants general manager Dave Gettleman will no want to part with that and he can’t be blamed.

But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have interest. They should have their ears to the ground for every available player possible. Fitzpatrick is a budding star and a proven commodity. If they don’t make the deal, expect the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys to throw their hats in the ring.
