Giants sent three scouts to XFL’s Guardians-Vipers game

The XFL officially returned to the football scene over the weekend with a slate of four games that were relatively well received — both on television and live, where roughly 20,000 fans lined each stadium.

In East Rutherford, New Jersey, former New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride made his long-awaited return to football in victorious fashion as the New York Guardians defeated the Tampa Bay Vipers to open the season.

As it happens, that win came under the watchful eyes of three different Giants scouts — Tom Rudawsky, Blaise Bell and Corey Lockett.

Considering the game was played at MetLife Stadium, it should come as very little surprise that both the Giants and Jets were represented. In fact, it would have been more jarring to learn that no scouts were in attendance.

Still, the fact that the Giants have eyes on potential talent is a good thing, especially when considering how paper thin their roster is and how any pipeline to talent is welcomed at this point.
