Giants select Kwity Paye, Dillon Radunz in latest Draft Wire mock

When Dave Gettleman took over as general manager of the New York Giants in 2017, he promised he was going to rebuild the club from the inside out with those big bodies — ‘hog mollies’ he called them — but has been slow to fulfill that promise.

Last year, Gettleman took three offensive linemen in the NFL draft and will seek to add to that group this year. In Draft Wire’s latest two-round mock draft, analyst Luke Easterling reads the tea leaves and takes two big bodies for the Giants to plug in and and play.

Round 1, Pick 11: Kwity Paye EDGE, Michigan

You know I love Michigan players and have family ties to the Big House but, again, choosing an EDGE at No. 11 is not the best use of this resource unless that player can play all three downs. If they are convinced Paye can do that and is not just a situational player, then they might be able to sell us on this pick. Easterling has the Giants passing on DeVonta Smith and Rashawn Slater to select Paye, a scenario which I see as highly unlikely.

Round 2, Pick 42: Dillon Radunz Offensive Tackle, NDSU

Radunz was Trey Lance’s protector at NDSU and is a left tackle by trade but the 6-foot-5, 301-pounder could end up playing guard in the NFL. The Giants wouldn’t mind that at all since that is where they are really looking to upgrade. If he can play tackle, that would naturally be a big bonus for Big Blue.

These are two players the Giants could have interest in but, again, I don’t see the Giants passing both Smith and Slater in Round 1 and then using a second rounder on an offensive tackle they may have to convert to guard.
