Giants select Grant Delpit in latest 2020 mock from Draft Wire

Many believe the New York Giants will target a wide receiver in Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft, but might they also consider some of the country’s top safeties?

Although it’s entirely too early to formulate any sort of expectation for the 2020 NFL Draft, our friends at Draft Wire have been hard at work hammering out various mocks.

In recent weeks and months, they’ve had the Giants selecting Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, Washington offensive tackle Trey Adams and Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault, but in their latest edition courtesy of Luke Easterling, New York instead goes with LSU safety Grant Delpit.

Delpit entered the conversation regarding the NCAA’s premiere safeties a season ago and could be poised for another impressive show here in 2019. In fact, Mel Kiper Jr. already had him at No. 2 on his big board as of May.

“The NFL comp for Delpit is easy; it’s former LSU safety Jamal Adams, who was drafted No. 6 overall by the Jets in 2017 and is coming off his first Pro Bowl,” Kiper said. “Delpit is a complete safety who is stout against the run and can cover the deep middle of the field. He had 74 tackles, five interceptions and nine pass breakups last season. The Adams comp comes in when you watch Delpit make plays in the backfield — he had five sacks in 2018. He’s also a great athlete.”

How would you feel about Delpit in Round 1, Giants fans?
