Giants select Daniel Jones, Montez Sweat in Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft

As the 2019 NFL Draft draws nearer, mock drafts are becoming a little more convoluted and, in some cases, bizarre. Experts and analysts are reaching a bit after projecting the same names to the same teams for months, so why not throw the final few mocks at the wall and see what sticks?

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah did in his most recent mock draft, where he has the New York Giants selecting Duke quarterback Daniel Jones not at No. 17 overall, but at No. 6 overall.

Making that projection even more confusing is that Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray was the only one off the board.

No. 6: New York Giants, QB Daniel Jones (Duke)

If the Giants want a QB, it makes more sense to secure him at No. 6 than leave it to fate and wait until they’re on the clock again at No. 17.

If the Giants are determined to take a quarterback, then yes, they should do it at No. 6 instead of No. 17. They also shouldn’t take a No. 17 quarterback at No. 6, which is exactly what Jeremiah has them doing here.

Speaking of pick No. 17, that’s where Jeremiah has the Giants finally addressing their pass rushing issues.

No. 17: New York Giants, EDGE Montez Sweat (Mississippi State)

The Giants end up with their edge rusher and quarterback — but in the opposite order from what’s been expected. Sweat could go later than some anticipate.

The notion that Jones would go as early as sixth and Sweat would fall to 17th is an interesting one, but not likely the way it will actually play out. Then again, the NFL Draft is wildly unpredictable and stranger things have happened.
