A Week 16 game between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins had gotten a little chippy at one point when quarterback Daniel Jones was hit late and seemingly in the head by a Redskins defender, sparking a mid-field melee.
For the most part, there was a lot of chest bumping and little else until ex-Giants safety Landon Collins came storming in, ripping tight end Kaden Smith down by the back of his shoulder pads.
Immediately after Smith hit the turf, running back Saquon Barkley rushed over and got into the face of Collins, his former teammate and friends, and things continued to heat up.
After a little shoving back-and-forth, the two were separated and the game continued. But what, exactly, was said in that moment?
Barkley isn’t telling.
“I don’t think I can say,” Barkley told the New York Post, adding that he didn’t want to use profanity.
After the game, Barkley said that cooler heads had prevailed and the two were able to express a mutual respect for each other.
“It was a little chippie,” Barkley said. “Or like, ‘Chill out … just chill out.’ We had a couple of words for each other but it was all love after the game.”
Indeed it was as Barkley and Collins exchanged game-day jerseys. But it’s still worth noting that it was Smith who caught the game-winning touchdowns over . . . Collins.
