Madden 21 is currently scheduled for an August release, so it should come as little surprise that some ratings have begun to be both announced and leaked.
Unfortunately, early indications seem to be that the leaked information is largely inaccurate this year, which was proven to be the case on Tuesday when it was rumored that New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was given a rating of just 89 overall.
The good news is that the rumored rating of 89 was incorrect. The bad news is that Barkley was still given a rating of just 91, which was tied for fifth-best among NFL running backs.
It could be argued that Barkley’s high-ankle sprain and corresponding dip in production may be the reason EA Sports gave him just a 91 rating overall, but what can’t be explained is his field vision rating of just 78, which ties him for 86th overall.
Even NFL legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders wasn’t okay with that disrespect.
You could realistically make the argument that Barkley’s awareness rating (84) and strength rating (81) were also too low, but that’s splitting hairs.
For now, Madden 21 has Barkley rated as the fifth-best back in the NFL, which isn’t bad, but won’t be something that sits well with Barkley.
