Giants’ Saquon Barkley, 10 others unlikely to play vs. Bears

New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said the plan surrounding Saquon Barkley’s playing time this preseason would eventually reveal itself, and it apparently has.

While Shurmur has not ruled Barkley out for the preseason, the running back will not play on Friday night against the Chicago Bears, which is likely to be his status straight through August.

In addition to Barkley, tight end Evan Engram, running back Wayne Gallman (ankle), cornerbacks Sam Beal (hamstring) and Deandre Baker (knee), linebacker Alec Ogletree (calf), offensive linemen Brian Mihalik (burner) and George Asafo-Adjei (concussion), wide receivers Darius Slayton (hamstring) and Sterling Shepard (thumb) and long-snapper Zak DeOssie (toe)will also miss the game.

On the Chicago side of the ball, almost every single offensive and defensive starter will be inactive for the game, including defensive end Kyle Long, who did not travel to East Rutherford with the team.
