Giants’ Saquon Barkley named finalist for AP Comeback Player of the Year Award

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has been named a finalist for the 2022 Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Barkley joins Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey as those vying for the honors.

Barkley returned in 2022 after several years of being hobbled by ankle injuries and a torn ACL. He played in 16 games, racking up 1,650 yards from scrimmage with 10 total touchdowns.

The 1,312 yards rushing was a career-best for Barkley, while his 57 receptions were tied for most on the team (Richie James Jr.).

Barkley’s health and production earned him a spot in the 2023 Pro Bowl Games, which was the second such honor of his career.

Giants offensive lineman Nick Gates, who returned from a significant injury that nearly cost him his leg and required seven surgeries, was not named a finalist for the award.

The winner will be announced at the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday, February 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
