Giants’ Saquon Barkley carted to locker room with ankle injury

Things went from bad to worse for the New York Giants in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Already down wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton, who are each dealing with hamstring injuries, and left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot), the Giants also appeared to lose running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley stepped on the foot of a Cowboys defender and rolled his ankle pretty significantly. He immediately reacted in pain and limped off the field where he was attended to by trainers.

Barkley’s ankle quickly swelled up and although he was initially listed as questionable to return, that was rapidly downgraded to out. He was later carted into the locker-room.

Barkley, who missed 14 games last season as the result of a torn ACL, was replaced by veteran Devontae Booker.
