Giants’ Sam Beal, George Asafo-Adjei among those still not practicing

New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur had hoped to get some of his injured players back on the field as the team returned to East Rutherford for training camp practice on Sunday, but those hopes fell on deaf ears.

As expected, players with the most recent injuries — linebacker Alec Ogletree (calf), running back Jon Hilliman (concussion) and offensive lineman Brian Mihalik (burner) — were on the sideline as the team stretched, and they were joined by several players with lingering issues.

Cornerback Sam Beal (hamstring) and rookie offensive lineman George Asafo-Adjei (concussion) were also sidelined, which has become a persistent problem for the Giants. Big George has been out since the third practice of camp, while Beal continues to deal with a wide variety of injury issues dating back to his first week with the team in 2018.

Another player Shurmur was optimistic he’d get back, cornerback Grant Haley (shoulder), did return to the field, but like wide receiver Sterling Shepard (fractured thumb), he was wearing a yellow non-contact jersey.

Meanwhile, offensive lineman Chad Wheeler (back) and cornerback Deandre Baker (unknown) were also on the sideline as practice got underway.
