Giants rookie Daniel Jones mercilessly booed at Yankees game

After the spring New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones had, you’d think fans would be lining up to meet him, get some autographs and wish him well as the future of the franchise.

Not so much.

To the contrary, Jones found himself mercilessly and classlessly booed at Yankee Stadium on Monday night when the 27-time World Champions showed the first-round pick on their big screen in center field.

Giants fans are and have been frustrated with the team’s regression in recent years, but to boo their first-round pick who has yet to play even a single professional snap seems awfully … Philadelphia-like, if you ask me.

Of course, fans have a right to express themselves in any which way they desire, but the approach to Jones is interesting when considering Eli Manning, who is portrayed as public enemy No. 1 in East Rutherford, received a standing ovation at the Giants’ Town Hall earlier this month.

Also, as frustrated as Giants fans are, it’s not as if they’re suffering more than the other New York/New Jersey area teams. In fact, it’s the Giants who last delivered the area a title when they defeated the hated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

The good news is that Jones can handle it, which he’s already proved. Of course, handling it and deserving it are two entirely different things and after Monday night’s display, Giants fans should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.
