Giants roamed the city streets ten years ago in Sea Odyssey

This time 10 years ago, the spectacular giants roamed the city of Liverpool.

In commemoration of 100 years since the sinking of the RMS Titanic, the three giants (Little Girl Giant, the Giant Uncle and the girl’s dog Xolo) walked in famous areas around the city. The three-day event attracted more than 600,000 people who watched in awe.

The event began with the little girl snoring in Stanley Park early on 20th April 2012.

French creator Jean-Luc Courcoult was inspired by a letter he saw on a visit to the Maritime Museum here in Liverpool. A little girl had written to her father, who was a steward on board the Titanic.

Sadly, her father did not survive the disaster, so he never received his daughter’s letter, which arrived in Southampton after the ship had sailed. This gave the French artist the idea of sending the Little Girl Giant to Liverpool in search of her uncle. He had promised to dive to the Titanic’s wreck and retrieve a letter her own father had written to her while on board.

The two giants and their dog covered many areas of the city including Anfield Stadium, Goodison Park, Liverpool City Centre, Albert Dock, and Chinatown.

After the three day and 23 mile long journey, the three giants met together and left the city on a boat at the end of Canning Dock on 22nd April 2012.
