Giants restructure contract of center Nick Gates

The New York Giants continue to tweak their roster and salary cap structure, even with players who are not on the active roster currently.

The team has converted center Nick Gates’ base salary for this season to a roster bonus to free up some salary cap space, per NFLPA records.

Gates fractured his leg in the Giants’ Week 2 loss in Washington. The injury was considered possibly career-ending at the time but Gates is currently rehabbing with hopes of continuing his career.

Last August, Gates signed a two-year, $6.825 million contract including a $1.5 million signing bonus with $3,175 million guaranteed, carrying a cap hit of $3.325 million and a dead cap value of $2 million.

Gates, who was voted a team captain, is likely to return in 2022 but whether he plays at guard or center remains to be seen.
