Giants Reportedly met privately with Dwayne Haskins prior to Ohio State’s Pro-Day

Welcome to the pre-NFL Draft shenanigans. On the tails of previous reports by ESPN’s Dianna Russini that the Giants were not a “good fit” for the Giants, we have that would suggest the opposite.

Ohio State’s annual Pro-Day is today, and all 32 NFL teams are present — yes, that would be your NY Giants. And not only are they present, but they reportedly met with Haskins privately over dinner.

Accordint to Mike Garfafolo of the NFL Network, not only did many of the high end brass of the Giants have dinner with Haskins, but they met with him separately outside of that as well. According to Garfafolo, there is “at least passing interest” in Haskins.

So what about the reports by ESPN that the Giants weren’t really that interested in Haskins. Here’s what Russini had to say on a recent Breaking Big Blue podcast.

“About a week after the Combine, I circled back with some people like, ‘What are you thinking Haskins? Do you guys like him? Do you think you are going for it with your No. 6 pick? It was, ‘No, actually. We are not doing a lot of work on him.’

“I spoke to a few people. I’ll paraphrase one: ‘He doesn’t fit with us.’ The idea that they are not going go after a quarterback with the No. 6 pick solidifies they are not giving up on Eli (Manning).”

So which is it? Are the Giants interested in Haskins or not? Well, maybe the below picture from Letterman Row will tell you all you need to know.

That’s quite a few of the Giants’ top guys sitting by catching Haskins put in some work Wednesday. Use the information as you will, but does anyone really believe Eli Mannning is going to find the fountain of youth? The G-Men are clearly in the need of a quarterback, and Haskins might be the best there is.

I sense the Giants are throwing up a smoke screen and are smitten by Haskins. These sort of things happen all the time as NFL executives and scouts try to throw opposing teams off the trail.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but I’d put money on the Giants picking Haskins … if he’s still available.
