Giants release statement on the passing of Mitch Petrus

For the second time in less than a month, the New York Giants were forced to say goodbye to one of their own on Thursday evening as 2010 fifth-round pick and Super Bowl XLVI champion, Mitch Petrus, passed away at the age of 32.

After spending the day working outside at his family’s shop in Lonoke County, Petrus complained of feeling ill and was brought to Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock where he succumbed to heatstroke.

After learning of his passing, Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch released a short statement.

“We are saddened to hear of Mitch’s passing. Our thoughts go out to Mitch’s family and friends.”

Throughout his four-year NFL career, Petrus appeared in 27 regular games with four starts, including 23 regular games and three starts with the Giants. He won a championship ring as part of the Super Bowl XLVI team.

In addition to the Giants, Petrus also spent a brief amount of time with the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans.
