Giants release LB Nate Stupar

The New York Giants have released veteran linebacker Nate Stupar, perhaps their top special teams player.

The Giants signed linebacker David Mayo earlier this week, so he is likely to take over Stupar’s role on special teams. No corresponding roster move has been announced as of yet.

The Giants will not travel to Dallas for their game against the Cowboys this Sunday until tomorrow, so it makes sense that they will elevate someone from the practice squad to fill the open roster spot.

The top candidates from the practice squad are: tight end C.J. Conrad, linebackers Jake Carlock and Josiah Tauaefa and defensive tackle Chris Slayton. All were in camp this summer with the Giants.
