Giants re-sign backup QB Alex Tanney to two-year deal

The New York Giants re-signed veteran backup quarterback Alex Tanney to a two-year contract on Monday. Tanney, 31, would have been a restricted free agent come March 13.

The value of the deal has yet to be disclosed.

What does this mean? Nothing, really. The Giants now have three quarterbacks under contract: Tanney, who has yet to take a snap for the Giants, second-year prospect Kyle Lauletta and veteran Eli Manning — the three quarterbacks they carried on last year’s roster.

The signing should not prevent the Giants from drafting a quarterback in next month’s NFL Draft.

The coaching staff is fond of Tanney and head coach Pat Shurmur likes a crowd in his quarterback room.
