The New York Giants have had their first positive COVID-19 test of the season, but as of now, operations remain as scheduled.
The player, who has yet to be named, is isolating along with all of their close contacts. In the interim, the Quest Diagnostics Training Center will remain open and practice will resume on Thursday afternoon.
“Late last night, we were notified that a Giants player tested positive for COVID-19. The player was immediately self-isolated, and the contact tracing process was initiated,” the team said in a statement.
“All of the player’s close contacts were identified and were informed to remain home today. Those individuals will participate in meetings remotely. We are working closely with the NFL’s Chief Medical Officer regarding next protocol steps.
“Quest Diagnostics Training Center will remain open, and the rest of the team will follow their normal practice and meeting schedule.”
The positive test comes on the heels of quarterback Daniel Jones, running back Saquon Barkley and others coming under fire for partying in New York City without masks over the weekend. However, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports none of those players have tested positive.

It is believed that the positive test came via an offensive lineman as all but four have been quarantined.

The Giants are schedule to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night, but that is subject to change pending additional tests in the coming days.
