Report: Giants place Mark McLaurin on IR, sign DE Terrence Fede

The New York Giants continued to tweak their roster on the defensive side of the football on Saturday, placing rookie safety Mark McLaurin on injured reserve with a fractured foot.

McLaurin was a thought to be a key undrafted free agent signing by the Giants this spring out of Mississippi State and was being considered as a candidate for defensive coordinator James Bettcher’s ‘moneybacker’ role, which is a hybrid between a defensive back and a linebacker.

To fill the roster vacancy, Big Blue signed veteran defensive end Terrence Fede.

Fede (6-foot-4, 282 pounds), 27, is a Nyack, New York native who was a seventh-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins out of Marist College in 2014. Fede played in 51 games for the Dolphins between 2014-17 making 50 total tackles over that period.

McLaurin is guaranteed to be out for at least the first eight regular season games should the Giants designate him as short-term IR. If not, his season is over.

Fede does not have much value to the Giants other than as a special teams player.
