Giants’ Pat Shurmur, Mike Francesa trade a few potshots

Shortly after New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur cancelled his weekly spot with WFAN’s Mike Francesa — a move he claims was an “organizational decision” — the long-time host hit Twitter suggesting that Shurmur is merely ducking tough questioning (and by “questioning” he means 20-minute screaming rants).

Following the Giants’ 32-31 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3, Shurmur addressed the media and appeared to take a subtle jab at Francesa by complimenting the team’s beat pool.

“I can appreciate the question. By the way, you guys ask me a lot of hard questions. Don’t let anybody say you don’t,” Shurmur said with a sly smile.

Not one to simply take a loss and walk away, Francesa immediately hit Twitter to respond to Shurmur’s comments, suggesting the head coach is overly sensitive.

Ironically, Francesa still doesn’t seem to understand that it’s those personal insults and criticisms that have driven a stake between he and the Giants. He’s gotten out of control with the verbal assaults, straying far away from the game of football into unnecessary territory.

Until he can step back and realize he’s in the wrong — and let’s not kid ourselves, he’s never wrong in his own mind — then Francesa can expect a weekly show without appearances from anyone within the Giants organization.
