Giants’ Pat Shurmur booed at Yankee Stadium on his birthday

New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur turned 54 on Sunday, but those in the Bronx weren’t interested in celebrating. Not even a little bit.

Shurmur was in attendance at Yankee Stadium as the Bombers took on the Chicago White Sox, and between innings, he was recognized on the big screen in center-field with a Happy Birthday wish.

Instead of cheers, Shurmur was met with a chorus of boos.

In the booth, Yankees play-by-play announcer, Michael Kay, reacted in shock, claiming Shurmur doesn’t deserve to be booed this early in his Giants’ tenure.

It was a rather surprising reaction given that Shurmur is just one season into his head coaching job and actually helped the Giants improve by two wins. However, with the recent trade of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., neither the team’s coaching staff nor front office is cast in a positive light with the fans.

Luckily for Shurmur however, fans in New York are fickle. They’re hard on you when the team is down, but they’ll have your back when you succeed. So now all Shurmur has to do is turn the Giants into a winner.
