One day after New York Giants left tackle Nate Solder announced he would opt out of the 2020 season, the team lost another tackle with the sudden news that Nate Wozniak had retired at the age of 25.
Oddly, word of Wozniak’s unexpected retirement came during the daily announcement of which players had landed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
Wozniak originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Minnesota following the 2018 NFL Draft and remained on their practice squad until August of 2019.
From there, Wozniak made a brief stop with the Atlanta Falcons (2019) before returning to New Orleans for an even more brief second stint. He was then signed to the Giants’ practice squad in December of last year and given a reserve/futures contract later that month.
Although the 6-foot-10 Wozniak was not in line for a starting job, he had positioned himself to compete for a key backup role.
