Giants open as 8.5-point road underdogs vs. Eagles

The 2-10 New York Giants have opened as 8.5-point underdogs at BetMGM for their Week 14 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles next Monday night at Lincoln Financial Field. The over/under has opened at 47.5.

This will thankfully be the final time this season the Giants will appear in front of a national television audience. The next time after this the Giants will make national headlines is when they a) fire everyone in the building and/or b) make the first selection in next year’s NFL Draft.

It is also the first of two meetings with the sliding Eagles (5-7) over the final four games. Philadelphia will need two victories over the Giants to have any shot at surpassing Dallas (6-6) for the NFC Least title.

The Giants have lost eight consecutive games and a loss on Monday night would tie them for the most consecutive losses in team history. The record of nine straight defeats was set in 1976 (Sept 12-Nov 7) and matched from Nov 9, 2003 through Sept 14, 2004.

Both losing streaks resulted in the dismissal of the head coach. In 1976, Bill Arnsparger was axed after the Giants opened the season with seven straight losses. John McVay took over in Week 8 and lost his first two games before beating the Redskins, 12-9, on Nov 14.

In 2003, Jim Fassel got canned after the Giants lost their final eight games after a 4-4 start. The ninth loss came in Week 1 of the 2004 season under Tom Coughlin.
