Giants’ offensive line ranks 17th in latest PFF rankings

Over the last couple of years, the New York Giants have revamped their offensive line. Going into the 2019 season, some would expect this offensive line to be the best Eli Manning has had blocking for him since the most recent Giants Super Bowl team.

On Monday, Pro Football Focus ranked the 32 NFL offensive line units following the preseason and the Giants checked in at 17th overall. Meanwhile, two of the Giants’ division rivals came in as the top two teams on the list. The Eagles topped the list with the Cowboys ranked second overall.

17. NEW YORK GIANTS

The new starting five played 59 snaps as a unit this preseason, and the results were very encouraging. They combined for a pass-blocking grade of 71.9 and run-blocking grade of 76.1.

Even being ranked 17th overall, Big Blues offensive line should be significantly better than it has been in recent years. The player who could possibly benefit from a stronger offensive line the most is newly elected captain Saquon Barkley.

Barkley had an incredible rookie year and it is hard to fathom him getting even better than he already is. Even so, running behind a strong offensive line may improve the reigning rookie of the year.

With weapons like Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard and Golden Tate (when he returns from his suspension) to go along with Barkley, the Giants’ offense should be efficient this season. Especially considering an improved offensive line.

The Giants will have to face the tough Dallas offensive line this coming Sunday to open the season which will be great test for their pass rush. If the Giants can win the battles in the trenches on both sides of the ball, it will give them a good shot at winning their season opener and steal one away from their division rivals.
