Giants near bottom in Rick Gosselin’s offseason NFL rankings

There is no good reason for any NFL prognosticator to pick the New York Giants to do anything special in 2021. Yes, they do acknowledge Big Blue will be improved but hardly no one is predicting a Super Bowl season, or even a playoff one. Seven losing season over the last eight years will do that.

Rick Gosselin of Sports Illustrated recently ranked the Giants 22nd out of 30 in his latest preseason power rankings.

22. NY Giants. The Giants stacked their offensive shelves by drafting WR Kadarius Toney in the first round and signing WRs Kenny Golladay and John Ross in free agency. Saquon Barkley also returns after sitting the bulk of 2020 with a knee injury. The cast is there for QB Daniel Jones to succeed. There are no excuses now. This will be a make-or-break season for Jones.

Yes, much of the Giants’ turnaround will depend on Daniel Jones’s ability to take to the next step. The Giants have a potential top notch offense after adding the players Gosselin mentioned above along with tight ends Kyle Rudolph and Evan Engram as well as wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton.

The Giants are also relying on Barkley retuning to form. If that doesn’t happen early on — or at all — they’ve beefed up their running back room with free agents Devontae Booker, Corey Clement and Ryquell Armstead, and drafted Gary Brightwell.
