Giants’ Nate Solder, Mike Remmers expected to avoid PUP list

One of the big questions facing the New York Giants as they arrived for the start of training camp on Wednesday was the health of their tackles, Nate Solder and Mike Remmers.

Solder underwent minor ankle surgery earlier this year, forcing him to miss spring practices, and for a brief moment there seemed to be some uncertainty regarding his rehab timeline.

Ultimately, it’s a non-issue as head coach Pat Shurmur told reporters that he expects both players on the field when they begin practice on Thursday.

Solder shared similar sentiments.

“I feel great. I haven’t played football in a while, so we’ll see. That’s what camp is about,” Solder said, adding that he’ll be on the field beginning Thursday. “[I’m ready to do] anything and everything they ask me to do.”

Remmers, meanwhile, was a late signing and missed the vast majority of the offseason workout program after undergoing back surgery. However, like Solder, he has slowly worked his way back and will avoid the dreaded Physically Unable to Perform list.

That’s good news for the Giants who will need both Solder and Remmers to step up in a big way this season, protecting veteran quarterback Eli Manning and opening holes for sophomore running back Saquon Barkley.
