Giants named a ‘sleeper’ to land Odell Beckham Jr.

After several days of negotiation, the Cleveland Browns have agreed to waive wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on the day of his 29th birthday.

Assuming Beckham clears waivers — something that has become less likely after having his contract restructured — the frenzy to sign him will be intense. Nearly half the league is likely to compete to land the superstar talent with some sporting better odds than others.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN recently broke down the most likely teams to land Beckham, topped by the Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks.

Other teams like the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers were also listed, but Fowler did make mention of a few potential sleeper teams. And one of those is certain to surprise you.

New York Giants: This would be something. The Giants have been battered with injuries at the skill positions. It’s doubtful this happens, but perhaps Beckham will realize he didn’t have it so bad in New York.

Beckham landing back with the Giants seems like an extreme longshot. Their relationship had been severed but many of those responsible for that falling out no longer call East Rutherford home. And general manager Dave Gettleman does appear to be on his way out as well.

Still, things got so sour between Beckham and the Giants that it’s hard to imagine either side wanting to reunite. And even if they did, the Giants have exceptionally limited cap space and that’s also expected to be an issue in 2022.

That said, the NFL is a wild place and stranger things have happened.
